History
In 2008, Charles De Wit Holding nv was established, a holding that currently owns following companies:
Inland navigation activities: De Wit Bunkering nv
The company Ch. De Wit was established in 1947 as a point of sale for Esso diesel oil and lubricating oil to the inland navigation in the port of Antwerp.
In the sixties, the company expanded by starting, with its own ships, to sell and supply distillates, such as diesel oil and marine oil, to sea-going vessels.
In the early nineties, the company Ch. De Wit started to specialize in deliveries to Rhine and inland navigation.
Ch. De Wit nv has become market leader by expanding its services: delivering lubricating oil in bulk, introducing a bunker card with bunker possibilities in Europe, a 'Safe Voyage' savings campaign, equipping bunkering ships with BOBS protection systems, offering marine materials, collecting waste oil…
Between 1993 and 1995, the company Ch. De Wit, as a subcontractor to the Antwerp Port Authority, brought into action one ship to collect waste oil and bilge water from the Rhine and inland navigation. That activity was put to a stop because the collection was consigned to companies who could also take care of the processing.
In 1996, company Ch. De Wit nv became Belgium’s main distributor of Mobil lubricating oils destined for Rhine and inland navigation.
Between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2002, company De Wit also took care of the drinking water distribution to inland navigation. That was the end of a monopoly position, offering an 80% saving to the Antwerp Port Authority, which resulted in a fair reduction of the port charges. Company De Wit has been taking care of this service from 1 January 2004 onwards up until now.
In 2008, the name Ch. De Wit nv was changed into De Wit Bunkering nv
